Arrest Made In Fatal Hit-And-Run Crash

It was a crash that left one person dead and one on the run. It happened last week near Hermosa Avenue on the westbound 210 Freeway at around 7:30 p.m. Police say that a man was standing on the shoulder of the freeway at the time he was struck. They believe he was inspecting his vehicle, perhaps changing the tire of his yellow Hyundai.
That was when a driver in a white Toyota Camry slammed into him. Authorities say that the force of the impact peeled the driver’s side door straight back. The driver of the Camry then kept going but stopped a few miles away and abandoned the car. The Camry has major front-end damage consistent with the accident, leaving no doubt it was the vehicle involved.
Now, after searching for a female suspect, CHP has made an arrest.
At the Compass Law Group, we do not know why this accident happened. Was the driver of the Camry distracted or impaired? While we wait for the investigation, we know those vehicle accidents are far too common on our roadways. If you need a Los Angeles car accident attorney, you can count on us to work diligently to secure the compensation you need.

Some Things To Be Aware Of

California has the largest population of any state in the country and hundreds of thousands of vehicle accidents. According to the state Office of Traffic Safety, in the latest reporting year there were:

  • Over 12,000 serious injuries
  • Over 3,500 fatalities

They make a distinction between minor injuries and serious injuries. Some injuries are catastrophic and life-altering. This can include spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, amputations, internal injuries, and more. The cost of treatment can become so much that families go bankrupt.
All because of another person’s negligence.
The first thing a person needs to do after an accident is to seek medical attention. After that, there are some important things for victims and their families to remember to do:

  1. Get the police reports as soon as possible.
  2. Consider getting an attorney if the other person was at fault.
  3. Follow all doctor’s orders, including follow up visits and rehabilitation.
  4. Focus on you first, then the property damage.

We think number four is important because many people rush to accept insurance settlements because it means they can get a working vehicle quickly. This often lowers the total amount of compensation they really deserve.
