What We Know Happened?

We have learned that two people were seriously injured on May 19 after they were struck by a hit-and-run driver in nearby Northridge. The incident happened on Nordhoff Street and Tampa Avenue at around midnight and firefighters had to cut the driver and passenger out of the vehicle.
As of this writing, police have not yet found the driver who struck them. The driver responsible for the crash abandoned their dark-colored sedan at the scene and fled on foot.
We know that this was a scary incident for those involved and we wish the victims a speedy recovery. While we do not know exactly what caused this crash, we often discover that hit-and-run drivers were impaired by drugs or alcohol or were otherwise engaged in reckless driving behavior such as texting and driving or street racing. In many cases, the suspect has a criminal record or warrants and is avoiding arrest.
There is no way that the people injured in this crash could have predicted this. That is the case when it comes to most vehicle crashes. All too often, victims are left dealing with the following injuries:

  • Broken and dislocated bones
  • Severe lacerations
  • Internal organ damage
  • Internal bleeding
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Traumatic brain injuries

During the latest reporting year in California, there were more than 278,000 total crash injuries. In so many of these cases, victims and their families get stuck in insurance limbo or are not even offer a settlement that will cover all of their expenses. That is not fair to them.
Aside from tremendous medical bills, crash victims are often unable to work while they recover from their injuries. This can leave them with no income even as their bills pile up.
