Uber Crashes Into Rapper’s Home

You may have missed the story last week of an Uber vehicle slamming into the yard of Los Angeles rapper YG. While police are still investigating the cause of the crash, here is what we know:

  • The Uber was a black Chevrolet Suburban
  • YG, 28, was inside the Uber at the time
  • The vehicle crashed through a brick wall around the property
  • The vehicle stopped on the residence’s lawn

Thankfully, nobody was harmed in this incident, but it does highlight some of the dangers you face every time you summon an Uber ride.
Do you know where to turn if you are injured in an incident with an Uber vehicle or driver?
If you need a Los Angeles Uber accident attorney, you can count on the knowledgeable and experienced team at the Compass Law Group to help you recover the compensation you need for all of your accident-related expenses.

Ridesharing Risks

We know by now that Uber drivers and vehicles are not as regulated as regular transportation services. Almost anyone with a qualified vehicle can become an Uber driver.
The requirements for California are that the driver has to be 21-years-old, must pass a background check, and have insurance on the vehicle. When you press the button to confirm a ride in the Uber app, you may have a grandmother show up to get you or you may have a half-drunk college student. You never know. The bottom line is that almost anyone can be an Uber driver.
These drivers do not have to have any particular passenger driver training. They just need a license. So, what do you do if your Uber driver is operating carelessly? What if you are another party that is affected by their negligence?
Who is liable if an Uber driver is drunk, distracted, or speeding?

Injuries

Who can be affected by irresponsible Uber drivers?

  1. Their passengers
  2. Other drivers on the roadway (vehicles, motorcyclists, etc).
  3. Pedestrians and bicyclists on or near the roadway

We know that Uber covers drivers’ insurance when they have passengers and when they are waiting for a fare, but will they put up a fight if a driver is reckless or negligent behind the wheel?
Do you know if your insurance company will cover all of your expenses?

What You Can Do

If you have been involved in an Uber accident, whether as a passenger or a third-party, please seek legal assistance.
