History and Architecture
Built-in 1856 by Sacramento merchant Shelton C. Fogus, the Stanford Mansion is an outstanding example of Greek Revival architecture. In 1861, the mansion was purchased by Leland Stanford, a prominent businessman and politician who later became California’s eighth governor. Stanford and his family lived in the mansion until 1872.
