Compass Law Group, LLP frequently deals with back injuries our clients have suffered as a result of someone else’s negligence or recklessness. Very often, such injuries occur in the lumbar (lower) region of the back, the part of the back that supports most of the body’s weight. Such injuries are always painful and may, if severe, involve surgery and temporary or permanent disability.
If you have suffered a lumbar injury due to another’s disregard for your safety, our experienced attorneys are dedicated to fighting vigorously to protect your rights and to win you just compensation for your medical costs, lost income, and other related expenses. We have an excellent track record of success with cases like yours, and we will charge you no attorneys’ fees until we win your case.

How Someone Else’s Negligence Can Cause Your Lumbar Injury
Unfortunately, there are a number of accidents that result in serious injuries to the lumbar spine. Many of them could have been prevented if another person or entity (e.g. employer, government agency, school, private company) had paid more attention or taken more precautions. These include:
- Car accidents in which a speeding, intoxicated, distracted, or otherwise reckless driver caused your lumbar spine to be impacted by the collision or to be ejected from your car
- Workplace incidents resulting from careless storage, loose fixtures, hazardous wiring, poor sanitation, improper protection from dangerous machinery
- Premises liability cases in which private or public property owners have unmarked dangers — unseen obstacles, uneven or slippery floors, broken benches or banisters, poor lighting — any of which may result in slip and falls or other accidents
If you or a loved one has suffered a low back injury in such circumstances, consulting with Compass Law Group’s highly capable back injury lawyers is a smart move. We will listen to your story and determine whether you have a viable personal injury case. Once we take you on as a client, we will take over all the legal and insurance matters that are adding to your stress.
Types of Lumbar Injuries
There are many ways in which the lumbar spine can be injured, depending on the nature of the accident. If you fall from a height at a construction site, for example, you will probably suffer a different injury than if you slip on an icy sidewalk. Much will depend on how you land and where your lower back is impacted. The most common types of lumbar injuries are:
- Strains, which affect the tendons
- Sprains that affect the ligaments
- Fractures
- Disc herniation, which puts pressure on nerves
Any of these injuries are painful enough to be disabling, at least temporarily. They all cause low back pain that may radiate into the buttocks and legs, stiffness, decreased range of motion, and/or muscle spasms. Sadly, it is entirely possible to suffer more than one category of lumbar injury in a serious accident.
Damages We Will Work Tirelessly to Obtain Through Negotiation or Litigation
It is exhausting as well as distressing to suffer a lumbar injury, all the more so when you realize that it would not have happened if someone had just paid attention and been more careful. You may now be suffering not only physical pain and emotional trauma from your accident but financial instability as well.
With medical bills soaring and you unable to work, funds may be limited. Now, while you cannot clean the house, mow the lawn, cook, help with the kids, or perhaps even bathe without assistance, you need all the help you can get. This is precisely when it will be a relief to talk with our compassionate, efficient attorneys.
We are well aware of how expensive incapacity is, even if it is relatively short-term. If you will need long-term care, the cost will be exorbitant. This is why we will fight tooth and nail to try to negotiate a settlement or verdict that will provide you with damages for:
- Medical, surgical, pharmaceutical, and rehabilitation costs
- Lost income, now and going forward
- Household services: childcare, dog-walking, housecleaning, etc.
- Pain and suffering
- Extended nursing care
- Loss of enjoyment of life
If your case involves especially egregious misconduct on the part of the defendant — drunk or drugged driving, for example — we may also be able to persuade the court to provide you with punitive damages.
